Braille Books Production House
Established in 1999, the Braille book production house makes all printed materials accessible in Braille format for children and adult with visual challenges. It began as a small initiative that made available Braille books for students of IAB. Currently the braille books produced in IAB are available to all visually challenged people in Tamil Nadu.
The state of the art production house with sophisticated printing machines such as Braillo 200, which produces 200 Braille pages per minute.
Production of braille books is more challenging than conventional book production. However the production team at IAB consisting of sighted and visually challenged people has ensured rigorous checks at every stage of the production to ensure error free copies.
The Braille production house transcribes textbooks, study guides, books on general topics, competitive exam books, dictionaries and novels in English and Tamil. Every year the unit produces around 300 books, Some of its landmark production include:
- CreA Dictionary - Tamil English
- Braille version of the French classic – (Le petit Prince) The Little Prince (Tamil Translation)
- Vilichaval - A Braille monthly magazine run by the blind people for the blind People
- Puthiya Thalaimurai - Braille equivalent of a famous Tamil weekly magazine
